The patient was experiencing more frequent and severe IBS flare-ups, which were significantly affecting his quality of life. In addition to his IBS symptoms, he had been diagnosed with diverticular disease, and he needed tailored advice to manage both conditions through diet and lifestyle changes.
In the first appointment, an in-depth dietary history was taken to identify potential triggers for his symptoms. The patient’s diet was found to be high in lactose, caffeine, and resistant starches.
The patient was also counselled on his poor compliance with the mebeverine medication. The purpose of the medication was explained, and the patient was encouraged to trial it as needed (prn) to manage flare-ups.
